The short version

A guitar that carries the tune, not the backing

Shahyd Legacy is best known as the lead guitarist of Sacred Legacy. He walked onto a stage for the first time in late 2004 with a band called SYN, then formed his own band in 2006 and released his debut solo album the same year.

What separated him early was a refusal to let melody sit in the background. His lines kept asking for more room than a verse or a bridge could give them, so he built whole instrumental records around them instead — the work that made Legacy a name on its own.

Since then: five solo albums, a record deal in Germany, tours across Europe and Asia, one of the Maldives' biggest rock bands, and a growing catalogue of original scores for film and television.

Timeline

How it happened

2004

First band — SYN

Shahyd steps on stage for the first time with SYN, the band that starts everything.

2006

Sacred Legacy, and a debut album

He forms Sacred Legacy and releases his first solo guitar album, The Sacred Legacy, in September. Hard thrashing riffs and melodic solos make the band an immediate hit with Maldivian rock audiences — and “Legacy” becomes his own name on record.

2008

The instrumentals take over

Melodies that were too big for one section of a song get their own records. Infinity, God's Legend and Before I Die become his best-known instrumental pieces.

2012

Nostalgia

A deliberate turn away from the metal sound toward something more melodic — and his biggest commercial success up to that point.

2013

The Legacy Begins & a European tour

Back with Sacred Legacy for the band's third album, a leap forward in production and musicianship. It lands the band a deal with German label STF Records, and the year closes with a tour through Europe and Asia.

2015

Through the Ashes

His third solo album returns to metal roots with a far more technical approach, released to strong reviews.

2016

Gravity

Co-founded with long-time friends and collaborators. Gravity becomes the top rock and metal band in the Maldives, playing the biggest local events and international stages.

2017

Gateways

The fourth solo album is named one of the year's best albums from Asia by Global Metal Apocalypse in the UK, and picks up top ratings across magazines and review sites.

2022

Stasis

The fifth solo album, released on the NFT Tone marketplace and digital stores. Shahyd serves as an NFT Tone ambassador.
